Before and After
Frequently Asked Questions
BBL gently heats the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate new collagen foundation, leading to increased skin firmness. This process will restore your skin to its natural beauty, blending its natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking. In addition to brown spots, the photothermal energy will eliminate fine vessels that cause redness.
Yes. The pulsed light device can customize settings to select the wavelengths, number of pulses, duration of pulses, delay between pulses, and power delivered to best match the relative depth, size, and necessary absorption of the intended target. The technician can avoid settings that would cause damage to the areas that need to be preserved.
Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur.
- Back of the hands
You’ll feel some intense warmth (that’s BBL doing its work). Some people report a rubber band snap sensation.
If you have a lot of spots, sun damage, or hyperpigmentation you may need 3-4 treatments initially, followed by 1-2 treatments a year for maintenance. Rosacea and visible blood vessels are deeper and may require up to five treatments initially. Keep in mind that these are estimates. A free consultation can be scheduled to determine what is right for you.
You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade.

In most cases, you are immediately able to return to work, apply makeup and resume most activities.
Frequently Asked Questions
An Intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulse over the treatment area. Pulsed light can deliver hundreds of thousands of colors of light at one time. Pulsed light machines use “cut off” filters to selectively deliver the desired wavelengths. This capability allows the experienced pulsed light operator to vary the light delivered in order to match the depth of the target and avoid the areas that are not being treated. Broadband light is introduced as a way to specifically target and eliminate acne bacteria and help redness.
Acne occurs when the oil produced by sebaceous glands does not reach the surface of the skin but is trapped in tiny pores or follicles. This plug may close off the pore causing the follicle wall to bulge which creates a whitehead. If the pore stays open the top surface of the plug may become darkened causing a blackhead. In both cases, the bacteria thrives in the clogged follicles. When the bacteria and pus leak from the follicle into the surrounding tissue, pimples are formed.
Unfortunately, acne is something most of us have experienced at one time or another. As many as three out of four teenagers have experienced it to some extent. It is most prevalent during adolescence because hormonal changes stimulate the sebaceous glands (oil glands) into producing more sebum (oil), increasing the chance of acne. While most people outgrow acne in their late teens or early twenties, many continue to be affected much longer. Aggravation of acne in later life may occur with menstrual periods, use of birth control pills, use of oil-based products, and stress.
As discussed, acne is difficult to treat. Most patients have tried more than one topical or oral medication to treat it. Some patients are not comfortable with the potential adverse effects of long term use of medication. BBL offers another option in the battle against acne.
After three to four weekly treatments, most patients experience a reduction in the severity of their acne and a reduction in the number of pustules and papules. Treatments provide long term resolution of hyperactive sebaceous glands.
