Frequently Asked Questions
- The Brella SweatControl Patch is a single-use disposable patch designed to treat Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in the underarms) in adults 21 years of age and older. It functions by generating heat when the water in your sweat touches the patch.
- The active part of the patch is a flexible, thin sheet of sodium (shown in the picture below):
- The sodium is attached to an adhesive backing so that it will stay in place when applied to your underarm by your healthcare provider during treatment, and can be easily removed when the treatment is completed.
- The patented Brella technology is designed to interact with your sweat as it comes to the skin surface of your underarm.
- As you sweat with the patch on your underarm, the sodium in the patch comes into contact with the water in your sweat.
- When the sodium contacts the water in your sweat, the device is activated, and heat (thermal energy) is created. The heat created by the Brella SweatControl Patch is precisely localized, targeting sweat glands to reduce sweat production.
Hyperhidrosis is also known as excessive sweating that is not always related to heat or exercise, which means that your body is producing more sweat than necessary to keep you cool and prevent you from overheating1 . People with Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis (PAH) often sweat excessively under their arms (the underarms are also called the axillae). Hyperhidrosis is one of the most common conditions in dermatology affecting almost 5% of Americans1 .
There are options to treat PAH. Your doctor will advise you of the different options available and help you make the right treatment decision. These may include:
- brella®
- Antiperspirants – available over the counter or by prescription.
- Prescription Medications – there are medications that are given as pills to be taken orally or topical wipes that can be applied directly to the axillae or underarms.
- Neuromodulator Injections – these require multiple injections applied directly into the axillae or underarms. (Ask us for more information.)
- Use of energy devices – this includes the application of heat generating devices, such as microwave technology or lasers, to the axillae or underarms.
The Brella SweatControl Patch can be used to treat adults (21 and older) who have Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis also known as excessive underarm sweating.
- If there is skin irritation on the underarm.
- If there are abrasions, nicks or cuts on the underarm.
- Please tell your doctor if you have shaved your underarms within three days of your scheduled treatment.
- To reduce sweat on other parts of the body.
Brella is proven to significantly reduce underarm sweating after a single treatment. Results lasting 3-4 months.
Brella is quick, comfortable and easy in-office treatment. It takes up to 3. minutes to treat each underarm and only one underarm is treated at a time.
